The President of the Republic, Daniel Chapo, said that the individuals who promoted and carried out acts of vandalism, looting and destruction of public and private infrastructures as part of the post-election demonstrations in Mozambique have been identified and will be held accountable.
Speaking this Thursday (20), during the closing ceremony of the 20th Graduation Course and the 7th edition of the Master's Degree Courses in Police Sciences in Maputo, Daniel Chapo expressed some concern about acts of incitement to violence through digital platforms.
"They expose instigating pamphlets that create a climate of instability under the camouflage of peaceful demonstrations, marches and caravans that turn into violent, illegal, criminal demonstrations and vandalism. No Mozambican can be prevented from moving freely and transporting their goods anywhere," said the head of state, quoted by the Mozambican Press. RFI.
On the other hand, Daniel Chapo also asked police officers to avoid actions that jeopardize the "good name" of the corporation and the state, considering "harmful practices" to be unacceptable, including corruption, extortion, patronage, indiscipline, nepotism and a lack of respect for citizens.
It should be remembered that according to the latest figures from the election observation platform Decide, the police repression of the demonstrations that have been taking place since October has resulted in 361 deaths, while the Mozambican authorities, for their part, confirm 80 deaths and report the destruction of 1,677 commercial establishments, 177 schools and 23 health facilities during the protests.
