Prémio Literário Mia Couto abre candidaturas da terceira edição

Between April 11 and May 12, applications for the third edition of the Mia Couto Literary Prize will be open.

The initiative is run by Cornelder de Moçambique (CdM), in partnership with the Kulemba Association, and aims to reward the best literary works by Mozambican authors, according to a press release.

The press release also says that for this edition, which is the third, literary works published between January 1 and December 31, 2024 will be eligible in the novel category.

The works will be judged by a specialized jury based on criteria such as originality, literary quality and cultural relevance.

It should be noted that since its first edition, the Mia Couto Literary Prize has honored works of Mozambican literature such as "No verso da cicatriz", by Bento Baloi; "Pétalas negras ou a sombra do inanimado", by Belmiro Mouzinho; and "Estórias trazidas pela ventania", by Adelino Albano Luís.

In the two previous editions, each of the winners received a cash prize of 400,000 MZN (four hundred thousand meticais).

In this third edition, entries will be made online, directly on the Kulemba Association website.

The competition is open to all Mozambican authors with works published in the eligible period. The prize regulations can be consulted on the Kulemba Association website.
