Portugal “legitima fraude eleitoral em Moçambique” segundo parlamentares

Portuguese parliamentary parties are criticizing Portugal's participation in the official swearing-in ceremonies tomorrow of Daniel Chapo as the 5th President of the Republic of Mozambique.

Following the approval of a recommendation by the Portuguese parliament for the country not to take part in the ceremony in Mozambique, Portugal decided to send the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Paulo Rangel.

The Liberal Initiative (IL) and the Left Bloc (BE) believe that Rangel's presence will demonstrate that Portugal agrees with the fraudulent electoral results of the October 9, 2024 general elections in Mozambique.

Those parties are opposed to Rangel's presence at the ceremony and Chega, while not rejecting Rangel's attendance, is also calling for Portugal not to recognize the election results.

"How is it possible that a representative of the government, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, who is also the Minister of State, the second political figure [of the executive], is going to represent Portugal in an act that constitutes a recognition that he has been recommended not to do?" questioned Rui Rocha, president of IL, writes the          PublicHe also noted that there could be a situation of "institutional conflict". He also stressed that Portugal's position means "a validation of fraudulent election results".

A similar position was held by the Left Bloc, which voted in favor of the IL initiative. For his part, Luís Fazenda, from the Left Bloc, considered that Portugal "should not be represented in an act of co-legitimization of a head of state who was admittedly acquired in an irregular electoral process".

The President of Chega, André Ventura, says that the new head of state should not be recognized until the circumstances of the elections have been determined.
