Portugal has provided Mozambique with 50,000 doses of vaccines against Covid-19, which will be accompanied by the "material necessary for its administration," including syringes and needles. The information was revealed this Sunday in a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

They are scheduled to arrive in Maputo this Monday and will be handed over to the Mozambican authorities by the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Francisco André.

In the same note, the guardian stresses that "in the short term," it is planned to "send a second batch of similar vaccines, totaling 100,000 doses.

This provision of vaccine doses against the new coronavirus is part of the Portuguese government's commitment to donate to the PALOP countries and East Timor at least 5% of the vaccines purchased by Portugal.

Mozambique has recorded nine more deaths due to the new coronavirus and 1,139 new cases of infection, the Ministry of Health announced Saturday. The fatalities are of Mozambican nationality, aged between 26 and 96 years, said the Ministry of Health's pandemic data update note.
