Sporting and FC Porto's websites suffer cyber attacks

Portais do Sporting e FC Porto sofrem ataques informáticos

Sporting Clube de Portugal informed today that its internet portal is being the target of a cyber attack, which is causing "server overload" and the unavailability of access.

The club says that the attack is of the DDoS (Distributed Denial of Service) type, which consists of sending excessive requests from several computers, which are also compromised.

"This 'flood' of malicious requests aims to interrupt the normal operation of the site, causing access constraints, and may even lead to the total unavailability of the service," indicates the Alvalade club.

Another club complaining today of a cyber attack is FC Porto, which, according to a club source, the official website was unavailable due to "millions of access requests" not entering the system.

"We are the target of a DDoS attack (Distributed Denial of Service). Are millions of access requests, which clog the 'site', and made with that this has been down'," said the source of the club quoted by Lusa.

The attackers "do not enter the structure" of the 'dragons' site, which by 1:30 pm Lisbon time was active again.
