The population of Mabime, in the district of Inhassoro, Inhambane province, blocked two vehicles belonging to the multinational company Sasol yesterday morning (Friday 20th) and "detained" two of its employees. The action came about as a way of demanding solutions to outstanding problems related to promises made by the company and the government.
According to a Dossiers & Facts newspaperThe local communities face serious difficulties due to the lack of basic social services, such as access to health facilities, forcing them to travel to Mangungumete or to the town of Inhassoro, more than 40 km away.
In addition, a bridge that is vital for the crossing of people and goods is in poor condition, hindering the transit of vehicles and exposing users to constant risks.
Meanwhile, at the site, the population had blocked the access roads using date palm branches. The release of the employees and the normalization of traffic were conditional on the presence of Sasol management for negotiations, but without police intervention.
