Four people died on Tuesday in the district of Maringué, in Sofala province, after being shot by the police of the Republic of Mozambique.
The victims were part of a group of people holding post-election protests. However, the situation evolved into clashes between the population and the police force. For a considerable time, their bodies remained adrift in the streets.
The population is outraged by the excessive actions of the police and is demanding clarification about the deaths.
"Measures to disperse and persuade people not to carry out these acts have been exhausted. The police were forced to fire shots, hitting three people. They were taken to the local hospital and pronounced dead," said Dércio Chacate, spokesman for the Police of the Republic of Mozambique in Sofala province, at a press conference.
