The Police of the Republic of Mozambique (PRM) arrested two individuals, one Mozambican and the other Tanzanian, in possession of around 50 kg of cannabis sativa, known as soruma, disguised in bales of used clothes, destined for Tanzania.
According to a Letter from MozambiqueThe operation was foiled at the Mozambican citizen's home, where the drugs were packed in laundry bags to throw off the authorities.
The spokesperson for the PRM in Maputo, Marta Pereira, pointed out that "this case is part of a larger trafficking network, and the quantity seized represents only a fraction of that and investigations are continuing to capture more of those involved".
In June, the Mozambican police seized several quantities of drugs disguised as deodorants and 1.4 tons of cocaine disguised as sweets.
