The police have given in to pressure from semi-collective passenger transport companies in Manica province and have removed the traffic checkpoints set up on National Road Number Six (EN6).
"We've reached an agreement where some stations won't inspect. That's why we're here to resume our activities," said a haulier quoted by the The Country.
Passenger transport in Manica was boycotted for a day on Monday due to what the transport operators called "too many checkpoints".
The police had claimed that each checkpoint was limited to a certain type of inspection, such as speed and/or capacity.
The resumption of checkpoints "where necessary" was announced last week by the police, following a road accident that resulted in the death of 23 people in the district of Gondola, Manica province.
Another haulier said that the class of drivers should comply with the capacity of the vehicles, since the police had agreed to the complaint. However, there is no consensus on this idea. So, on Thursday, the hauliers and the police are due to meet to reach a common port.
