The Angolan National Police (PN) arrested four activists on Thursday (07) who were holding a protest in support of the people of Mozambique in front of that country's embassy in Luanda.
According to a VOAThe action puts Angola's new interior minister's stance on civil liberties to the test.
For former Angolan CASA-CE MP Makuta Nkondo, "repression is in the blood" of the Angolan regime and nothing should change. "Repression is a deep-rooted practice in the MPLA regime".
The demonstrators wanted to show their support for the protests in Mozambique against what presidential candidate Venâncio Mondlane calls fraud in the elections and the murder of two of his supporters
The mother of one of the detainees, Leonor Matias, said she was outraged by the arrest of her son, Mbanza Hamza, and called for everyone to be released.
"So they're helping others. I've talked a lot, has crime hit anyone? Look, if others are suffering, we can't support them. If it's to support others in Mozambique, we're all brothers," said Matias.
She asked the Angolan President to see "the Mozambican people as the Angolan people, the suffering of Mozambique is also the suffering of Angola, he should think twice and the Angolans also deserve the same dignity as the Mozambican people".
