Podemos submits the 20 "critical" Terms of Reference to PR and PGR

Podemos submete os 20 Termos de Referência “críticos” à PR e PGR

The Optimist Party for the Development of Mozambique (Podemos) today submitted the Terms of Reference (TRD) listing the 20 agenda proposals for debate with the President of the Republic, Filipe Nyusi and the presidential candidates in the October 9 elections.

On the other hand, in order for the debate to take place, the party is imposing "preconditions" for Venâncio Mondlane's participation.

The document was sent this afternoon to Filipe Nyusi's office at the Presidency of the Republic and to the Attorney General's Office (PGR).

As the party's representative, Dinis Tivane, explained, the TRD are due to the fact that the President of the Republic called the meeting "without a clear agenda, just to discuss and talk".

Among other issues, Podemos and its presidential candidate, Venâncio Mondlane, want to debate: the restoration of electoral truth; criminal and civil liability for those involved in falsifying the electoral process and documents.

What's more, the party proposes "that in six months we prioritize the harmonization and satisfaction of all the demands of the various professional classes, such as doctors, teachers, nurses, judges, prosecutors, the civil service, police, reservists, etc".

Tivane is aware that the TRDs are critical and capable of changing the order of the Constitution of the Republic, but this can only be debated "if the PR sees fit".

However, to materialize the debate, the party listed the previous terms that ensure Venâncio Mondlane's free movement in national territory.

Podemos wants to see the legal proceedings against the presidential candidate extinguished because they are "partial, illegal and immoral, limit his civil and political life, and prevent his free movement and full freedom".

Even so, he proposes that Venâncio Mondlane's participation should be virtual; that the press should have free access to the debates; the release of all those detained as part of the demonstrations; and guarantees of political and legal security for all those involved in the dialogue.
