The Optimist Party for the Development of Mozambique (Podemos) accuses presidential candidate Venâncio Mondlane of systematically violating the "free, conscious and voluntary" agreement between the parties.
According to a statement issued by the political group, it was the candidate for President of the Republic who, from the pre-campaign period until the demonstrations, made unilateral decisions, the consequences of which Podemos has always suffered.
"It is not possible to sustain accusations of betrayal or non-compliance on the part of Podemos, which has always remained within the agreed limits, and has often subordinated itself to the unilateral strategies of the other party, assuming all the consequences that come with that, while Venâncio Mondlane has repeatedly and seriously violated the terms of that agreement, on multiple occasions, since the campaign period," reads the party's statement.
In the document, the party reaffirms that its MPs will be sworn in for the next legislature, failing which they will be deemed to have withdrawn, in accordance with the Assembly of the Republic's regulations.
The party believes that this is one of the "priority" ways to ensure political stability and conflict resolution in the post-election period.
The party says it is interested in "ensuring that, in future electoral processes, popular sovereignty is always respected and determines the results".
