PNUD disponibiliza 10 mil euros para programas de descentralização

The United Nations Development Program (UNDP) is funding decentralization programs in the country to the tune of about 10 million euros to build the capacity of provincial assemblies.

The UNDP program started this year and aims to strengthen democratic governance and peace in Mozambique. Part of the amount has already been invested in the provinces of Maputo, Sofala, Manica, Nampula, Cabo Delgado and Niassa, according to "O País".

Quoted the publication the UNDP representative, Cristiano Pedrazo, said strategic planning processes are being supported in the provinces, "aligned with the national indicators framework and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The UNDP is working in coordination with the Ministry of State Administration and Civil Service and the Ministry of Economy and Finance to implement the project.

"We are supporting the government with technical assistance, in defining mandates, in building the capacity of provincial assemblies and provincial-level officials," explained Alícia Martins, the EU representative.

In order to evaluate the results of the program's implementation, the first annual meeting between different national and international institutions that support the decentralization process is being held this week in Maputo.
