The Mozambican driver, Rodrigo de Almeida, won the "DTM Trophy" race at the Red Bull Circuit held last weekend, Sunday (25), in Austria. He is the first Mozambican to achieve the feat.
"It was an incredible victory! Thank you very much to the team, I'm just very happy," Almeida celebrated after his first victory on the DTM platform.
"I really like this track, it's really special. We had to manage the tires and we managed to do it," he commented.
Rodrigo de Almeida won the gold medal driving a Mercedes-AMG from the BWT Mücke Motorsport team, ahead of German, Tim Heinemann, in second place, and Brazilian, Tiago Vivacqua, in third place.
Over the course of the race's 20 laps, Almeida ended up too fast for his opponents. The Mercedes-AMG driver had started from third on the grid and led the field from the seventh lap. Earlier, the Mozambican had already overtaken Porsche driver Daniel Gregor of the KÜS Bernhard team, who had started from pole position.
For Mercedes-AMG, it was the first victory of the season in the DTM Trophy with production-based GT sports cars.
