The Attorney General's Office (PGR) has ordered PODEMOS presidential candidate Venâncio Mondlane to refrain from practices that violate the Constitution of the Republic, electoral legislation and other norms, as a result of the repeated wave of social unrest, public disobedience, disrespect for state organs and incitement to violence.
According to a statement from the PGR, these acts were carried out by Venâncio Mondlane at rallies, on social media and other digital platforms.
"As a candidate aspiring to the position of President of the Republic, with the duty to ensure compliance with the Constitution of the Republic and other laws, he adopts a stance, totally contrary, when he should inspire citizens with the idea of restraint and respect for legally established state institutions," the Public Prosecutor's Office said.
This is not the first time that the PGR has subpoenaed the candidate and says it is worrying that he has repeatedly practiced behavior that violates the principles and rules of electoral ethics. The previous summons was issued during the election campaign for "insulting" the President of the Republic.
"Even more aggravating are his pronouncements to divulge information about the election results that have not been confirmed by the competent bodies, to proclaim himself President of the Republic, claiming to have created a power transition commission and to incite the population to acts of violence and public disorder, with the allegation that power should be seized," he said.
