Pernod Ricard joins forces with Repensar Cooperative to promote glass block production

Pernod Ricard junta-se a Cooperativa Repensar para promover o fabrico do bloco de vidro

Pernod Ricard Mozambique, the world leader in spirits and wines, has teamed up with the Repensar Environmental Cooperative to promote the manufacture of glass blocks from waste glass. To this end, Pernod Ricard employees collected glass waste last Thursday (20) at Macaneta beach, in the Marracuene district, Maputo province.

As part of Responsab'All Day, the group's social responsibility initiative, the waste collected was used as raw material to make the glass block. Alongside the collection of glass waste, other solid waste was also collected, helping to clean up the beach.

According to the general manager of Pernod Ricard Mozambique, Francisco Júnior, the aim of this action is to reduce the amount of bottles in the environment by supporting the circular economy. "We are aware that waste treatment is a challenge for Mozambique and we, as Pernod Ricard Mozambique, could not be oblivious to this issue. The results of this action are very positive, as is also the case with the program to collect bottles from establishments in the city of Maputo for subsequent transformation into various marketable materials, thus creating a value chain," said the manager.

For her part, the coordinator of the Repensar Environmental Cooperative, Júlia Pires Serão, shared: "We have involved the community considerably in our actions because the community is the main one affected, and a large part of the waste we find doesn't come from Macaneta, it comes through the action of nature and humans, so the way we adopted was to make the community aware of our activities and at the same time we have the support of partners such as Pernod Ricard Mozambique who contribute significantly to the development of our actions.

At the end of the activity, Pernod Ricard Mozambique donated a check to the Repensar Environmental Cooperative, which will be used to expand the activities carried out so far through recycling and environmental protection.
