The Optimist Party for the Development of Mozambique (PODEMOS), which supports presidential candidate Venâncio Mondlane, has denounced the kidnapping and murder of a member of the district political committee in the district of Mogovolas, in the northern province of Nampula.

According to a RFIThe complaint was made by Velasco José, provincial president of the PODEMOS Youth League. "He was taken the night before last from his home. Two men came knocking at the door and he thought it was a relative, opened the door with his wife and was taken from his house towards the city of Nampula. Approximately 20 to 30 kilometers from the town of Nametil, he was killed with three shots," said the provincial president of the PODEMOS Youth League.

Velasco José added that the party's political delegate, Castro Niquina, escaped kidnapping on Saturday. "We have no doubt that this is political persecution. The regime is trying to silence everyone who crosses its path. The delegate would have spoken out months ago, announcing some of Frelimo's delaying maneuvers regarding electoral fraud."

The extra-parliamentary party has denounced a wave of persecution of its members in Nampula province, northern Mozambique.
