Today, the Assembly of the Republic (AR) definitively approved the revision of the Labor Law after recognizing that the current law is out of step with current reality.
The approval, unanimous among the parliamentary benches, is also supported by the need to apply a new labor law approach to the current course of development in the country.
The Minister of the portfolio, quoted by the Radio MozambiqueHe said that the law in force does not allow the application of the current working arrangements to be taken into account by the emergence and evolution of sectors of activity.
"Introduction of a provision on harassment, its concept, characterization and penalization; provision on the abuse of disciplinary power and its effects; provision on employment intermediation; legal provision on working hours; alternation regime; legal provision on mixed remuneration; and legal provision on the suspension of the contract for reasons of force majeure and unforeseeable circumstances," said Margarida Talapa.
She also said that the proposed revision had been debated in various forums with input from the civil community.
"We believe that this revision is in line with the country's efforts to create an environment of justice and peace at work. We also believe that the approval of the new law will guarantee greater protection of the rights of workers and employers, as well as the greater stability that is sought in labor relations in the pursuit of the public interest," he said.
The instrument includes some amendments, such as the rewording of article 1, number 5, which now reads as follows: "Principles and interpretation of the labor law: the interpretation and application of the rules of this law obeys, among others, the principle of the right to work, stability in employment and in the job, change of circumstances and non-discrimination on the grounds of color, race, sex, ethnic origin, place of birth, religion, social position and political option," said Lúcia Mafuiane, Chair of the Committee on Social Affairs, Gender, Technology and Social Communication.
