Renamo President Ossufo Momade is not the party's best choice to run in the next general elections on October 9, says Fernando Mazanga, a senior member of the political formation.
Mazanga, who evaluates Ossufo Momade's five-year mandate positively, said that Momade should remain Renamo's president in the meantime to ensure the party's stability and cohesion.
"I agree with him about Ossufo's leadership. But we could have done better. That's what we were going to do. President Ossufo should win and be President of the party, and then we should choose a candidate for President of the Republic," said Mazanga.
"So, objectively, Ossufo, we still need him as the party's candidate, but to run for President of the Republic we would need another figure," he noted, as if giving up the battle for the presidency.
He would have proposed that Venâncio Mondlane was the ideal party member to go forward to the general elections, "but he was already demonstrating in Alto Mulócuè", where the Party Congress was held, to which he was not invited.
For Mazanga, Mondlane should have remained calm and observed the phenomena. "There was still room".
