Renamo leader Ossufo Momade rejected the election results validated and proclaimed by the Constitutional Council, promising to mobilize all Mozambicans to save democracy in the country.
Speaking shortly after the Constitutional Council's (CC) decision, which saw Frelimo and its candidate win with 65.17% of the votes, relegating Renamo to losing its status as the main opposition party in the next legislature, Ossufo Momade said that the ruling party "should be ashamed of itself about the results announced.
"We don't recognize the results or the supposed winner, much less the numbers attributed to his party. Renamo believes that Mozambique deserves a legitimate government chosen by the people and not by a small group of people. We are going to mobilize the people so that we can fight together to save democracy," stressed Ossufo Momade.
According to Momade, Renamo had already submitted evidence to the CC regarding the violation of the Constitution of the Republic during the election, including the alleged falsification of public notices, the exchange of electoral rolls and the persecution of members of opposition parties.
"These elements are not mere speculations, but notorious data indicating that they have not been treated with due seriousness by the CC, opening space for the future uncertainty of our democracy, political intolerance and social and political stability," added the Partridge leader.
