The President of Renamo, Ossufo Momade, and the entourage accompanying him on his vote-hunting trip, were prevented from staying overnight yesterday at a resort that provides accommodation services in Namapa, Nampula province.

According to the party's spokesman, who was also there, Renamo's decision was not to leave the resort.

Marcial Macome called it an attempt to sabotage Ossufo Momande's work. This was because they had experienced a similar situation in Niassa province. The intervention of the Secretary of State in the province was necessary to resolve the conflict.

"We arrived here, where a reservation had already been made and ... at the last moment when we should have entered here we were told to leave," he said.

According to the spokesman, the order was given by the owner of the resort, who said that a Renamo delegation should not be there.

"We want to reiterate that, because the reservation and payment have already been made, we are not going to withdraw from this resort. Consumer rights must be respected," he said.

Macome took advantage of the press to discourage all other agents who provide accommodation services from adopting discriminatory attitudes.
