Ossufo Momade, the current president of the Renamo party, is the candidate for President of the Republic in the next presidential elections for the same party. 

The information was given yesterday by the spokesman for the largest opposition party, José Manteigas, during a press conference.
"Ossufo Momade is our candidate and the president who is bringing success to the party," said Manteigas.

The choice of Ossufo Momade to run in the next presidential elections goes somewhat against what was expected by public opinion, which advocates a new leadership to take the party to its longed-for power.

It is known that Ossufo Momade has led Renamo since 2018 after the death of Afonso Dhlakama, the party's historic leader who died in May of that year from illness.

It should be noted that the general elections, including the seventh presidential elections, are scheduled for October 9 this year, at a cost of around 6.5 billion meticais, according to the proposed State Budget for 2024.

At the same conference, the spokesman for the main opposition party in Mozambique criticized the proclamation made by the Constitutional Council (CC), which gave victory to the Frelimo party in the repeat of the local elections in four municipalities in the country.
