Ossufo Momade defends reforms in Renamo and in the country

Ossufo Momade defende reformas na Renamo e no país

Renamo's leader, Ossufo Momade, recognizes that the political party is in need of reforms capable of resolving the current climate of dissatisfaction among some members.

Recently, the party has experienced tensions, with former guerrillas of the political formation rioting at the national headquarters demanding the removal of the current President.

Momade played down the situation and said that there are mechanisms within the political formation that can formally dictate the future of the president elected at the congress.

In an interview with DWIn the same vein, he said that the country should also follow the same line of reform.

According to Momade, the ongoing dialogue between the political parties with parliamentary seats and the extra-parliamentary party, New Democracy, is fundamentally aimed at implementing reforms to ensure the credibility of electoral institutions.

"Through this dialogue, we would like to have credible electoral bodies, without influence in any part [of the electoral process]. The problem we have is what happened to the National Electoral Commission, which has no decision-making power, just like the Constitutional Council. The work we are doing is to find a new formula to save the electoral processes in Mozambique, so that the elections are credible and don't generate crises," he said.

He said that another of the key points of the reforms under discussion had to do with national reconciliation in order to promote peace in the country.

According to Momade, the government must recognize the situations that give rise to conflicts and work to resolve them.
