The country is going through the electoral campaign period, in which political parties are trying to convince the electorate that their political formations are the best alternative for governing over the next five years.
In this process, with a view to the October 9 elections, the political groupings have the right to air their views as enshrined in the law in the public media, although the private media also do so.
This is reflected in the expectation that, at least at the level of the media, the dissemination of the election manifesto will be equitable. However, an analysis by the Mais Integridade Electoral Consortium has shown that this perspective is being applied in the opposite way to what was expected.
In presenting the balance of the second week of the vote hunt, the consortium revealed that the Frelimo party is the one that benefits most from the media. In other words, the news professionals give greater coverage to Frelimo's electoral movements than to those of other parties.
Mais Integridade analyzed 1,470 pieces published in national media, 27% in four daily newspapers, five percent in seven weeklies; and 68% in five radio broadcasts.
This data is also reflected in the fact that television stations start their news blocks on the elections/campaigns with pieces in the order of Frelimo, Renamo and MDM.
In the weekly newspapers, Frelimo had 38% of coverage, against 21% for Renamo, 19% for MDM, and 18% for Podemos. In the dailies, Frelimo had 42% of coverage, compared to 24% for Renamo, 18% for MDM and 11% for Podemos.
In the radio media, Frelimo absorbed 29% of all the coverage, against 17% for Renamo, 16% for MDM and six percent for Podemos.
