The United Nations resident coordinator in Mozambique, Catherine Sozi, called on the Mozambican authorities to investigate the running over of a young woman by a military armored vehicle during protests that took place yesterday (27), and to hold the perpetrators accountable.

In a statement, the UN said it was "deeply alarmed" by reports of deaths and injuries, including a person run over by an armored vehicle, related to protests in Mozambique.

"The authorities must investigate these incidents and hold the perpetrators accountable," emphasized Catherine Sozi.

In addition, the coordinator calls for calm and the necessary restraint on the part of the Mozambican authorities, in order to ensure that solutions to the country's challenges are reached in peace and with respect for the functioning of its institutions.
