European observers promise not to interfere in the electoral process next October

Observadores europeus prometem não interferir no processo eleitoral de Outubro próximo

The head of the mission of the European Union (EU) group to observe the elections on October 9, Laura Cereza, assured yesterday that the 150 members deployed for this election will be totally impartial, stressing that there will be no interference in the process.

Speaking at a press conference, Laura Cereza said that European Union election observers had already started arriving in the country.

This Monday, the head of the mission was received by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation. "We want to underline our working principles, which are always neutrality and impartiality in observing this electoral process. We don't interfere in any way and we have a methodology that has been defined and tested over many years to carry out this observation. We follow the international standards of the rest of the organizations," said Laura Cereza, head of the European Union Electoral Observation Mission in Mozambique.

Laura Cereza also stressed that the EU election observation mission would not make any public statements until 48 hours after the elections, "because we want to respect the electoral process as much as possible and not interfere, letting everything develop as it should".

"After two or two and a half months, I will come back with a team to present the conclusions and the electoral observation report, as well as possible recommendations," the source added.
