The regime of the former President of the Republic, Filipe Nyusi, is said to have opened wounds that are difficult to heal by denying seats in parliament to comrades-"enemies" who emerged over the ten years of his mandate.
According to the Center for Democracy and Human Rights (CDD), with the exception of Cabo Delgado and Niassa, in the rest of the country there are 24 entities that did not win a parliamentary seat in the current legislature.
The victims were in Maputo city (Jerson Celano Fernandes Candeiro and António Rosário Niquice); in Maputo province (Alves Luís Cossa, Faruk Osman Eliseu da Conceição Cossa, Olívia Fernando Matavele); in Gaza province (Edson Da Graça Francisco Macuácua and Ivan John Daniel Matavele); Inhambane (António Chuquela); Sofala (Emanuel Meque António, husband of Catarina Dimande); Manica (Ana Armando Chapo); Tete (Vitória Dias Diogo, Joana Anacleto Vasco, José Ajape Hussene Chironga, Luísa André Avelino Cuchamano, Carlos Jó Tomo); Zambézia (Jaime Basílio Monteiro, Ilca Vanessa Gaspar Braga Soares, Zainane Memane Ossufumane António, Safi Tratibo Amaral, Sábado Alamo Chombe); and Nampula (Milissao Castomo, Osvaldo João Gonçalo, Agostinho Navanssuane Chelua).
The CDD recalls that these figures lost their seats for 'no reason' after the Constitutional Council (CC) presented its ruling on the 2024 general elections, which left the comrades' party with 171 seats. The CC thus ended up, without argument, annulling the deliberation of the National Electoral Commission (CNE) which had awarded the ruling party 195 of the 250 seats in the Assembly of the Republic.
"If, on the one hand, the change served to make up the fraud and respond to the interests of the secret agreements with Renamo and the MDM, parties with which Frelimo says it is dialoguing to end the post-election tension, excluding Venâncio Mondlane, it also served to settle accounts between the 'Nyusistas' and some 'enemies' that the faction was producing on the side. The operation caused wounds that are still open today among the comrades, and which may take time to heal, with an impact on Frelimo itself and on the state, which will suffer as a result," concludes the CDD.
