Nuvunga defends Venâncio Mondlane's "safe" return

Nuvunga defende retorno “seguro” de Venâncio Mondlane

The Director General of the Center for Democracy and Development (CCD), Adriano Nuvunga, argues that Venâncio Mondlane's return to Mozambique must take place within an environment of security.

For Nuvunga, the politician Mondlane "must" return to the country, because that is where he must fight his battle to restore electoral truth.

"I think it's important for Venâncio Mondlane to come back to the country. He is making history and he has to do it here. The Mozambican state must create conditions so that all politicians can carry out their political activities safely, without any kind of threat, because we are in a democratic space," he said.

For the social activist, it is essential that the state security agencies and the death squads, which are currently the main threat to Mondlane, do not prevent him from exercising his political activity.

"The central issue is the denunciation we are making of the death squads, because they have been threatening activists, assassinating politicians and lawyers. Elvino Dias and Paulo Guambe were murdered by the death squads," he said.

Nuvunga was speaking on Monday after submitting a criminal complaint to the Attorney General's Office against the Ministry of the Interior and the Ministry of Justice, Constitutional and Religious Affairs for the deaths of 33 inmates at Machava Central Prison and Maximum Security Prison (B.O).

He said that if Venâncio Mondlane is to be sworn in as the 4th President of the Republic of Mozambique, he must do so safely, "without being threatened, particularly by agents linked to the state's security sectors".
