The country received this Wednesday about 330,000 doses of vaccine against the new coronavirus donated by the governments of Norway and Belgium, as part of the Covax international mechanism to support vaccination, the entities announced in a joint statement.
According to the statement, 179,800 doses of vaccine were donated by the Norwegian government and 149,760 by Belgium, for a total of 329,560 doses.
According to the document, the donation "complements the 1,318,560 vaccine doses already obtained by the Mozambican government," with the support of "several partners, under the Covax initiative.
According to the latest data from the Ministry of Health, about two million people have been vaccinated in Mozambique, almost 12% of the 17 million people the government aims to cover by the end of 2022.
The third phase of vaccination against covid-19 started this Wednesday in the country, and is expected to cover about seven million people until March 2022, including pregnant and lactating women who are at least 18 years and three weeks pregnant, according to health authorities.
The vaccination process against the new coronavirus in Mozambique began in March, covering priority groups, including health professionals and police officers, followed in August by mass vaccination.
