Gang of Mozambicans and foreigners neutralized for bank robberies

The Police of the Republic of Mozambique (PRM), in Manica province, arrested four individuals accused of robbing a bank and stealing 14 million meticais in the district of Macanga, in Tete province, in the central region of the country.

The gang was made up of five individuals. One of the gang members is on the run and the police are working to capture him.

Among those indicted, two are Mozambican and two Malawian, and are being held in the city of Chimoio.

In their possession, the police recovered an AK-47 firearm with ammunition.

The head of the public relations department at the provincial command of the Police of the Republic of Mozambique in Manica, Mouzinho Manasse, said that the neutralization of these individuals was possible thanks to the collaboration of the communities.

There are suspicions that this is the same group that robbed a branch of the International Bank of Mozambique (BIM) in the Macanga district of Tete province.

According to Manasse, after this raid, the accused took refuge in the city of Beira, in Sofala, where they were coordinating with a person, with a plan to rob a bank establishment, but - in the city of Chimoio.

"We stayed alert and monitored this gang until it was neutralized. It's a dangerous group with a very strong criminal record," he added. (Source: AIM)
