A Russian ship under sanctions by the US government in Washington has docked off the coast of Mozambique and the US embassy expressed its concern to the Mozambican government on Thursday.
The cargo ship in question "Lady R" anchored in the port of Beira in January this year and according to the American authorities in South Africa, the vessel received military weapons at Simon's Town Naval Base, near Cape Town, before heading to Russia, according to the Observer.
An analysis of records by the Associated Press (AP) news agency pointed out that the "Lady R" cargo ship is linked to a company that has been sanctioned by the United States for having previously transported weapons for the Russian government and aiding its war effort.
At the same time, the Al Jazeera television channel cited data from the multinational Refinitiv indicating the cargo ship's stop between January 7 and 11 at the port of Beira, after leaving the Simon's Town naval base and before continuing on to Port Sudan in the Red Sea.
The Mozambican authorities have not provided any further information on the matter.
