Samora Machel Jr. "Samito", a member of the Frelimo party, believes that there is no glimpse of "National Unity" among Mozambicans today.
"Do you think there is National Unity? I don't see National Unity. Is the country going to move forward like this?" he said and questioned, on the sidelines of the celebrations for National Heroes Day and the 56th anniversary of the death of Eduardo Mondlane, the first president and founder of the Frelimo party, who is seen as the architect of "National Unity".
In Machel's view, the solution to unblocking Mozambique's economic and social progress necessarily involves dialog.
"We need to sit down at the table. Dialogue, positive discussions. We have already liberated Mozambique and now we have to make the Mozambican man evolve," he said, pointing to the basic commitments of the Mozambique Liberation Front.
For the son of the first President of independent Mozambique, Samora Moisés Machel, it must be possible for Mozambicans to find points of unity between differences.
"The division of Mozambicans is the result of structural problems, poorly functioning institutions, a lack of provision for the people, proper and quality health care, proper and quality education, and [among other things] employment for young people," he said.
