The Representative Committee of Refugees and Asylum Seekers in the Maratane Refugee Camp, in Nampula province, has denounced that the camp is losing most of its residents, who have left due to food shortages.
According to a message presented by the refugees to the governor of Nampula, Eduardo Abdala, during the World Water Day celebrations, which took place in the Maratane refugee camp itself, each refugee family living in the center is provided with, for example, two and a half kilograms of rice, which is not enough to guarantee food.
"On the occasion of the Governor's visit to Maratane camp, we would like to thank the Governor and the Government of Mozambique for welcoming us to Maratane camp. Most of the refugees in the camp are fleeing to neighboring countries because of the poor diet. Each one receives 2.5 kilograms of rice a month," lamented the representative of the Refugee Representative Committee, who presented the message to the Governor of Nampula.
According to a Rigor newspaperIn addition to food, described as the main reason for the depopulation of Marratane Camp, the Representative Committee of Refugees and Asylum Seekers in Mozambique laments the lack of reintegration and naturalization activities for refugees.
