Maputo Municipality clarifies tender for construction of toilets worth 17.7 million meticais

This Wednesday, January 29, the Maputo Municipal Council (CMM) clarified the controversy surrounding the tender for the construction of three public toilets at strategic points in the city. According to the council, the total cost of the infrastructure was 17.7 million meticais, a figure 21% lower than the initial estimates and 6% below the average of the bids received.

Seventeen bidders took part in the tender, and the selection process focused on the quality of the work, the technical capacity and the sustainability of the solutions presented.

If a Dossiers & Facts newspaperThe project, funded by the World Bank as part of Maputo's Urban Transformation Plan, aims to improve hygiene and sanitation conditions in high-traffic areas. The infrastructures will be built at the Junta Terminal, the Jardim Stop and the Missão Roque Stop, with each unit costing approximately 5 million meticais.

The toilets have been designed to ensure durability, accessibility and safety, including nickel-chrome steel sanitary ware, solar lighting and materials resistant to vandalism and climate change.

The City Council has ensured that the tendering process was conducted transparently and rigorously, in accordance with national standards and the funder's guidelines. The council also pointed out that the toilets will be adapted for people with reduced mobility, meeting the accessibility standards required by current legislation.
