Matola City Council has signed a partnership with Yango, an international digital cab company operating in Africa, to promote sustainable and efficient market infrastructure for digital services in the transport sector.
The memorandum was initialed last Thursday (29), on the sidelines of the Maputo International Fair (FACIM 2024), by Júlio Paruque, Mayor of the City of Matola, and Zameer Adam, managing director of Yango in Mozambique.
The aim, according to the two organizations, is to promote a sustainable and efficient market infrastructure for digital services in the app-based transport sector.
To this end, Yango undertakes, in coordination with the municipality of Matola, to develop operational guidelines that include the organization of training sessions for transport companies, focusing on how to obtain the necessary registrations and licenses to operate in the city of Matola.
Zameer Adam, managing director of Yango in Mozambique, said on the occasion that the formalization of this relationship with the Matola City Council "is recognition of our positive contribution, not only to mobility, but also to the growth of the local and national economy". "With this memorandum of understanding, the municipality of Matola and Yango are joining forces and reinforcing their commitment to quality, safety and rigor in the operation of app-based transportation in the municipality," added Zameer Adam.
For his part, the mayor of Matola, Júlio Paruque, began by highlighting Yango as a key player in the transport sector, especially in the Maputo metropolitan area, and then explained that "through a strong partnership with Yango, we intend to gain a comprehensive understanding of the services offered and use its advanced digital platform to improve the mobility of our citizens, addressing our critical need for safe and efficient transport solutions".
