The Public Prosecutor's Office (MP) is demanding the payment of 32 million meticais in compensation to the independent presidential candidate, Venâncio Mondlane, and to the Optimist Party for the Development of Mozambique (Podemos), in the person of its representative, Albino Forquilha.
The Public Prosecutor's Office is making the demand in the conviction that Mondlane and Podemos are the moral authors of the demonstrations that led to the looting of public and private property all over the country.
The PGR says it has filed a civil suit with the Maputo City Court because it considers Venâncio Mondlane and PODEMOS to be the promoters of the demonstrations, which sometimes culminate in the destruction of public and private property.
The Public Prosecutor's Office recalls that it warned and summoned the two politicians, but they continued to call for the mass participation of citizens in the protests, inciting them to anger and paralyzing all activities in the country.
"For this reason, there can be no doubt about the civil liability of the defendants, as instigators, as long as their statements were decisive for the verification of the results now in crisis, especially damage to state assets."
As in Maputo City, lawsuits with the same objective will be filed in other provinces.
