Mocímboa da Praia suffers another terrorist attack

Mocímboa da Praia sofre mais um ataque terrorista

The village of Chinda, in Mocímboa da Praia, Cabo Delgado, suffered a terrorist attack on Wednesday night, which resulted in 11 houses being burnt down, including a car and a mill. Residents notified the local authorities and they promptly went to the scene.

"We have a force close to the village, we communicated and they intervened, that's why the worst didn't happen," said a source quoted by the Lusa.

However, residents say they are worried, given that this attack took place in a village that is close to a military position, on a main road linking the northern districts of the province.

"We're worried. How is it possible for terrorists to attack and two kilometers away there's a military force?" he said.

After the attack, some people sought refuge near the administrative post of Diaca, which has an advanced position of the FDS.

"There are people who didn't sleep here yesterday [Thursday]," said another source from Chinda.

The community of Chinda, Mocimboa da Praia, borders the district of Muidumbe, across the Muela River, on national road number 380, one of the few paved roads in the region, linking it to the districts further north, such as Palma, Mueda, Nangade and Mocímboa da Praia.

Chinda is also the crossroads of the road that leads to the administrative post of Mbau, a place also attacked by the rebels, but where communities have already begun to return following several announcements that security has been restored.
