Mozambique will receive the fourth largest share of next year's European Union (EU) budget, in the international aid component of this continental organization.
The announcement was made this Tuesday in Pemba, by the Portuguese MEP and president of the joint mission of the European Union and the African, Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) group to Cabo Delgado, Carlos Zorrinho, for whom the decision was taken, in light of the humanitarian crisis in Mozambique, resulting from terrorist actions in the north of the country.
He explained that every year the European Union has made available from its budget about 100 billion euros for international aid and that part of this amount goes to humanitarian action in Cabo Delgado province.
Carlos Zorrinho said he was pleased to note the level of coordination in humanitarian aid by the government and other missions on the ground.
For his part, Jomo Eswatini, co-chairman of the parliamentary mission of the joint assembly of the European Union and the ACP group told journalists that he had found a spirit of resilience on the ground.
"We were very impressed by the resilience and resistance of the Mozambican people who do not give up, they move on despite the difficulties. It is a people that wants dignity and currently needs help, a people that wants to get back to supporting themselves with their own means, once the terrorism situation has calmed down," he said.
In Cabo delgado, the delegation visited some resettlement centers, interacted with some victims of terrorism, local government officials, and organizations involved in the humanitarian aid movement on the ground.
