Mozambique receives 1 million more doses of covid-19 vaccine today

The country receives today another batch of Covid-19 vaccines, consisting of one million immunizers.

The announcement was made yesterday, by the Minister of Health Armindo Tiago, during the ceremony to receive more than 300 thousand vaccines from Johnson & Johnson, a donation from the United States government through the COVAX initiative.

The health minister said that the vaccines that are arriving in the country will allow the immunization of twenty percent of the Mozambican population against Covid-19 by the end of September this year.

"The acquisition of vaccines by the government, announced by His Excellency the President of the Republic, will be complemented, we are inviting everyone to be here again, at night, to receive one million doses of vaccines for our people. The vaccination of the Mozambican population will also contribute, as has been said, to reduce the pressure on the Health System, to reduce the number of hospitalizations, and the number of deaths that are being verified. Therefore, we want to use this opportunity to appeal to all those who will be covered in the next vaccination phase, which we will announce tomorrow, to massively adhere to the vaccination that we will provide", he said.

According to the Minister of Health, nearly three percent of the eligible population has already been vaccinated since the start of the vaccination campaign last March.
