Mozambique may introduce the first law to regulate scientific activity in different areas of knowledge. The Minister of Science, Technology and Higher Education says that the legal regime will adapt research and scientific developments to current and future needs.

Quoted by NewsDaniel Nivagara predicted that the regulatory instrument will contribute to the development of socio-economic, political, cultural and technological issues.

The Minister was speaking on Monday in Maputo at the opening of the first extraordinary session of the National Council for Science and Technology.

It is also hoped that the law will strengthen the national capacity for scientific research and inter-institutional collaboration between researchers, as well as encouraging a culture of research.

On the other hand, the law should facilitate the protection of scientific and technological heritage; intellectual property; promote ethics in scientific activity and ensure funding for the development of research.

The draft law is to be examined by the Council of Ministers for consideration and approval.
