Mozambique has already reached the peak of cholera and is now seeing a reduction in the number of cases

Moçambique já atingiu o pico da cólera e agora regista redução do número de casos

The number of new cholera cases in the country is falling, at a time when a total of 124 deaths and more than 27,000 cases have been recorded since September.

Speaking in an interview with STV, José Paulo, from the National Health Institute (INS), revealed that the outbreak reached a peak phase between the 12th and 13th epidemiological weeks. "It's currently in a descending phase, although we do have some new outbreaks," he said.

Domingos Guihole, head of the Health and Surveillance department at the Ministry of Health (MISAU), said on Tuesday that Mozambique needs at least two million more doses of vaccine against the disease to cover high-risk areas, citing difficulties in obtaining them.

Guihole also said that "the country has already placed an order for new vaccines, but I have to say that there has been no response yet because there is a lot of demand globally".
