On Monday, the Minister of Public Works, Housing and Water Resources, Fernando Rafael, and the Egyptian Ambassador, Mohamad Hassan Farghal, both discussed new forms of collaboration to tackle climate challenges, water diplomacy and the growing demand for affordable housing in the country.
Mozambique faces significant challenges, such as extreme weather events, limited access to drinking water and a housing deficit that affects a large part of the population. Egypt, which has extensive experience in these sectors, has shown interest in supporting Mozambique by sharing knowledge and innovative solutions.
During the meeting, possible areas of collaboration were explored, including water resource management, with an emphasis on groundwater development and watershed management, as well as strengthening social housing through public policies, financing and new construction technologies. Both showed interest in formalizing this partnership through future cooperation agreements.
The relationship between Mozambique and Egypt has strengthened in recent years, with various initiatives for technical training in water resource management and the exchange of experiences. The expectation is that concrete progress will be made in the coming months through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to consolidate this cooperation and boost sustainable development in the country.
