The Minister of Transport and Logistics has expressed the government's dissatisfaction with the quality of services provided to users applying for driving licenses.
"We think that the services we now provide to citizens are not satisfactory. It needs to be improved. It doesn't make sense for a driving license to take three months or six months. We think a driving license could take less time than it does," said João Matlombe.
According to the head of the sector, the situation is all the more serious because the state is wasting money outsourcing an inefficient service.
"It's even worse, because it's an outsourced service. So if there's an entity contracted to provide this service and it takes that long, it means we're paying for a bad service," he said, noting that this is a contractual issue that will be evaluated.
"But as a government we are not satisfied with the service provided. We're going to take measures based on the contract to see if we have more serious entities that respect the citizen, provide an efficient service and can deliver driving licenses in less time, just like other services," he said.
What's more, Matlombe acknowledged that the amount charged to issue a driving license is excessive for the citizen and out of line with common sense.
"Driving licenses are expensive and don't make sense. We think it could be made more accessible," he said.
The minister was speaking today in Maputo on the sidelines of the Technical Council of the Road Transport Institute (INATRO).
