MDM proposes two ways to end demonstrations in Mozambique

MDM propõe dois caminhos para cessar as manifestações em Moçambique

Mozambique is going through a critical post-election period that has already led to loss of life and looting of public and private property.

The Democratic Movement of Mozambique (MDM) believes that the demonstrations reflect the position of the majority regarding the results of the October 9 general elections announced by the National Electoral Commission (CNE).

Due to the escalation of the protests and their consequences, the party's president, Lutero Simango, today in Maputo proposed two possible ways to stop the demonstrations.

For the presidential candidate, either a forensic audit should be carried out comparing the results held by the Constitutional Council (CC) with the original minutes and notices, or the elections held on October 9 should be annulled and repeated nationwide.

"We will be on the side of the Mozambican people, of electoral justice and we will fight all forms of manipulation," he said, after stressing the need for an inclusive dialogue to resolve the main problem of the demonstrations: the electoral issue.

At the press conference, he repeated the party's position on the demonstrations, emphasizing that the protests are by all Mozambican citizens who do not agree with electoral justice.
