A march attended by hundreds of members and supporters of Renamo, Mozambique's largest opposition party, marked the first day of Ossufo Momade's election campaign in the northern province of Nampula, in particular, and in Mozambique, in general.
Renamo's presidential candidate was received on Sunday morning (01) at Nampula International Airport for a one-day visit, in an act that marks the start of his electoral campaign tour, following the general and provincial assembly elections on October 9.
Ossufo Momade is the last of the four candidates to enter the current election campaign, which officially kicked off on August 24.
According to a AIMAfter landing in Nampula at around 9am, Ossufo Momade led a march from the airport along the avenues of Trabalho, Paulo Samuel Kankhomba and Eduardo Mondlane, ending up in the Macondes neighborhood, where he led a popular rally.
At the rally site, after marching around seven kilometers, Ossufo Momade refuted the narrative about his controversial disappearance on the eve of the election campaign, stressing that he had not been abroad due to health complications.
Regarding his plans for governance, the Renamo candidate made promises ranging from reforming the state apparatus to fighting hunger in Mozambican families.
"We want to develop our country so that our people have lunch and dinner, at least two meals," he said, in an ambition whose achievement, he said, is dependent on the mechanization of agriculture in the country.
On this visit to Nampula province, Momade is accompanied by his wife, Renamo cadres, including members of the Assembly of the Republic, the Mozambican parliament, from this political grouping.
After his visit to Nampula province, Ossufo Momade will head overland to Niassa province, still in the north, entering through the district of Cuamba.
