The Observatory of Cultural Policies in Africa - OCPA, with the assistance of UNESCO, is promoting the Regional Workshop on the Revision of the Manual for the Design and Evaluation of National Cultural Policies in Africa.
The event takes place from May 2-3 at the Tivoli Hotel in Maputo City.
The initiative, according to the newspaper "O País", was designed to provide a comprehensive review of the guidelines for the design and evaluation of national cultural policies on the African continent; to debate new methodological guidelines and recommendations; and to promote the exchange of information on national policies, regional experiences and initiatives taken by key stakeholders on new developments in thinking on the subject.
According to the source, the program will explore cultural policies as the fundamental pillar; and examine how institutions and other social actors can defend cultural policies, in their dimension as a public good with the potential to promote inclusive social and economic transformation and prosperity in different contexts.
Experts in Arts, Culture, Cultural Heritage and related sectors from countries such as Mozambique, Angola, Burkina Faso, Madagascar, Morocco and Zimbabwe are the main participants in the event, which will also involve the National Commission for UNESCO in Mozambique; the Mozambican Federation of Cultural and Creative Industries (FEMIC); the Institute for Socio-Cultural Research (ARPAC); and the Center for African Studies.
