Manuel de Araújo, mayor of Quelimane, is attending the African Urban Forum, an event of continental relevance taking place from September 4 to 6, 2024, in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. This meeting brings together African and international leaders to debate the future of cities on the continent, especially in the face of climate challenges and rapid urbanization.
Today, September 6, Manuel de Araújo will be one of the speakers on the panel entitled "Rebuilding for Resilience: Addressing Loss and Damage in Africa's Urban Future." In this crucial debate, he will be accompanied by important names such as Lars Gronvald, from the European Commission (DGINTPA), Trevino Forbes, mayor of Walvis Bay, Namibia, Dr. Aklilu Fikresil, who will be speaking on the panel. Aklilu Fikresilassie, director for Cities in Africa at the World Resources Institute (WRI), Dorah Modise, regional director for Africa at C40, Nicholas Tandi, senior specialist in urbanism and water resources at the Africa Global Center on Adaptation, and Dr. Meggan Spires, director of Climate Change, Energy and Resilience at ICLEI Africa.
The Forum, organized by the Covenant of Mayors for Sub-Saharan Africa, is a strategic platform for promoting climate action and sustainable development. Since its creation, the pact has been dedicated to tackling the challenges posed by rapid urbanization on the continent, seeking innovative solutions and opportunities that can transform African cities into resilient and sustainable centers.
