The mayor of Quelimane, Manuel de Araújo, says that the solution to the crisis in which Renamo is mired is for Ossufo Momade and the chairman of the National Council to urgently convene a meeting of this body to analyze the life of the party, including the question of the next general elections in Mozambique.

In a report published by VOA, Manuel de Araújo expressed his concern at the fact that the party's organs, including its president, from a legal point of view, have been out of office since the 17th of this month and that there is no indication that a Renamo Congress or National Council will be held.

"The meeting of the National Council is extremely urgent in order to give those who intend to run for the presidency of the party time to prepare," argues Manuel de Araújo, adding that "it is these political, legal and logistical issues that create this uproar and unease among some members of Renamo".

In the same publication, the Quelimane mayor denies that there is anyone outside the party interested in the current situation and admits to running for the presidency of Renamo and the Republic, if none of the people who have already shown interest in this present a convincing electoral manifesto.

"The candidate must indicate what his strategy is 'so that we have the guarantee that with him we will increase the number of deputies in the Assembly of the Republic, we will reach Ponta Vermelha, we will elect governors, because in the previous elections there were 10 governors and Renamo had none and we don't want to repeat that history'," he emphasized.

He added: "The candidate who comes up with programs that respond to these issues in a convincing way, I will support, be it Ossufo Momade, Elias Dhlakama, Venâncio Mondlane or another, but if I come to the conclusion that none respond to these challenges, we will move forward with an alternative candidacy.
