Manuel de Araújo acusado de não pagar salários e má gestão

The Mayor of Quelimane, Manuel de Araújo, is accused of mismanaging the municipality's funds and failing to pay staff salaries, going up to three months without pay.

The situation is generating an atmosphere of discontent, especially among members of the municipal assembly from the Frelimo party. According to them, quoted by Rádio Moçambique, the irregularities in the payment of salaries have been going on for more than two years.

According to the mayor, Manuel de Araújo, it is the Provincial Economic and Finance Service that has delayed making the municipal compensation funds available since 2023.

"Any delay in disbursement has implications for the fulfillment of any entity," he said.

The Director of the Provincial Economic and Financial Services, Lucas Jackson, revealed that the government had allocated 76 million meticais to the Municipality of Quelimane. The amount was to cover liabilities during the first semester.
