The former Secretary General of Renamo, Manuel Bissopo, has criticized the selection of party members to take part in the National Congress of Renamo, to be held in Zambezia on 15 and 16 May.
"The process, since the last National Council, we have noticed a number of serious irregularities in the provinces, attempts to manipulate the delegates to Congress, through conferences that do not coincide with the statutes," said Elias Dhlakama's representative.
According to Bissopo, all over the country, delegates are receiving recommendations from Ossufo Momade's leadership to "handpick" delegates to Congress, disobeying the rules established by the National Council and the Congress Preparation Office.
For his part, Alfredo Magumisse, who is also running for the presidency of Renamo, criticizes the current state of the party and Ossufo Momade's unwillingness to work towards internal cohesion.
"The incumbent president has been severely eroded, accused of not building internal cohesion. Remember the issue of the emergence of Mariano Nhongo, and the isolation of General Mackinze, one of the important figures in the process of the struggle for democracy," he said, stressing that "this shows a fragility on the side of President Ossufo".
He believes that his candidacy will bring balance and cohesion to the transition of generational leadership.
